Detailed Look

  1. Almond Milk has 50% less calories than Low-Fat Cow’s Milk.
  2. Almond Milk has the same amount of fat as Low-Fat Cow’s Milk, viagra dosage but in the form of healthy monounsaturated fats (the fats that give nuts that heart-healthy reputation).
  3. Almond Milk has significantly less carbohydrates, while Low-Fat Cow Milk packs 13.1 grams of lactose- a really annoying milk sugar.
  4. Almond Milk has fiber, while Cow’s Milk does not.
  5. Almond Milk has significantly less protein than Cow’s Milk, but who really cares when you’ve got a milk source that has less than 2 grams of effective carbs (that are NOT in the form of sugar).
  6. Almond Milk has almost as much calcium as cow’s milk. You know what’s even cooler? Those 200 mg’s of calcium from Almond Milk are more absorbable than the calcium you get from cow’s milk. Why? Because Almond Milk doesn’t have 13.1 grams of fart-busting lactose blocking it from being absorbed.
  7. Almond Milk is 100% vegan.

Almond Milk has a subtle “nutty” flavor to it, but not too much. It reminded me of Almond Syrup (Baithan). A cup with a few packets of Stevia or drops of Stevia liquid tastes more like a treat!

Whatever health benefits you receive munching on Almonds, you’ll get here.

Treat it as you would cow’s milk. Whatever ingredients ask for milk, sub in Almond Milk instead.

What Sucks About It?

A liter (pictured above) costs KD 1.500- a bit hefty in comparison to cow milk. This is owed to the amount of almonds used to make the milk. Another downer is the “use within 5 days” policy or the stuff goes rancid. Bummer.

Will I spend KD 1.500 a week on Almond Milk? DEFINITELY. I love cow’s milk, but it doesn’t sit well with me. Through experimentation, I noticed that lactose and dieting don’t go hand in hand. Fat loss literally STOPS whenever I add in a minimal amount of any dairy product that contains lactose.

With Almond Milk, I can still make my whey protein powder dessert recipes creamier.

EcoMil Sugar-Free Almond Milk

The company producing this product is 100% organic. The sugar-free version contains water, organic almonds and organic tapioca (used to thicken the Almond Milk). There are no artificial sweeteners here. The sugar-filled version contains organic agave syrup, so expect an increase in sugar grams and calories.

Whether or not you’re dieting, always go for the sugar-free version and add some Stevia to sweeten.

I found some at The Sultan Center and at The Baking Tray.

  1. Ahmad Al Sawad Says:

Are you sure of the calorie amount for almond? would you please double check? Because I think the correct number should be 115 kcal

  2. FAHAD Says:

Ahmad Al Sawad: Positive. How did you calculate 115?

  3. Ahmad Al Sawad Says:

From what I remember from the label, it was written:
    46 kcal / 100 ml
    So, 46 * 2.5 = 115 kcal / 250 ml :-D

  4. FAHAD Says:

Ahmad: you’re referring to the version with sugar. Kindly refer to this website:

  5. Ahmad Al Sawad Says:

Fahad: Yes, you are right! It’s my mistake!
But can you tell me how did you calculate the net carb?

  6. FAHAD Says:

    Ahmad: total carbs minus fiber.

  7. Athoob Abdullah Says:

We have the same Almond Milk here in the UK except the fact it’s the one mixed with Agave Syrup, and yes!.. it’s pricy here too! madree lesh.

Any way we use a lovely coconut milk and I feel kinda worried what to do without it when I come home for good.

Name of Product: Kara Dairy Free Coconut Milk

Can you find this in Lulu hyper market??

  8. FAHAD Says:

Athoob: Just researched it and it looks good. The saturated fat in it (MCT) is great since it prefers to be burned off instead of stored. I would use this as another milk substitute, but it it contains a bit of sugar (1.6g) per 100ml. If they come up with a sugar-free version, I’m definitely buying it.

I’ll be sure to look for it or anything similar the next time I go grocery shopping :)

  9. Miss Farah Says:

  11. FAHAD Says:

Miss Farah and r.alsharif: it’s AMAZING! I fell in love with it! Make sure you get the one pictured up top. Others contain added sugars in the form of organic agave syrup.

  12. expatandthecity Says:

Lol at your third sentence. I hope I’m never around you when you drink full fat milk ;P

  13. expatandthecity Says:

    Ooops, I meant 4th!

  14. meowtalker Says:

I’m ADICTED to Silk brand Vanilla Almond Milk. I’m ready to buy stock! I hve no weight issue and drink Lifeway Kefir for protein. I’m going tomorrow for a glucose tolerance test. I believe I’m hypO glycemic. I add 1/2 cup of organic cane sugar to my almond milk and eat it w/ a spoon like a crunchy treat. Sounds medically wrong.

  15. FAHAD Says:

meowtalker: holy sugar rush! That’s a lot of sugar!

[...] The Diet Ninja posted about the Almond Milk a while back, I asked my sister -who was shopping at Sultan Center- to get me [...]

  17. JourneyKitchen Says:

LOVE almond milk and its soooooooooo easy to make at home! Infact I also make hazelnut milk. And add a bit of unsweetened cocoa powder to it for hazelnut chocolate milk! I hope that’s good for me. Please ;-)

  18. FAHAD Says:

JourneyKitchen: In comparison to milk? BOTH ARE GREAT! Adding unsweetened cocoa powder would improve health benefits even more :) 20 grams of Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder contains 8 grams of fiber, 4 grams of net carbs and only 2 grams of fat (healthy fats).
